On a mostly flat, 138km stage of Tour de l’ain I had a go in the bunch sprint. In a crazy final Kilometer with 4 turns before the line. I came out of the final turn with 500 meters to go in great position. I was pinched a bit in the gutter by an FDJ rider, but got around him and was able to come across the line 5th. The current race leader won the stage and extended his lead. I would’ve liked to have won, but to be top 5 is good and my best placing for the season yet.
I was hoping to be able to win today, knowing it was my last chance for a bunch sprint here at l’Ain. Also missing the US Crit championships this weekend I would have like to have won here for a trade. I was close and I had a go for it. At least I can say my form is coming back around.
